How Can Merchants Help Agents Find Their Products?
A user asks for a black backpack under $100 that arrives before Friday. Even if a merchant sells a suitable product, an agent needs its exact variant, availability, total price and delivery coverage to judge whether it meets the request.
Discovery is only the beginning. Information must be understandable, current and consistent with the cart and final checkout.
This is a merchant-side concept explanation. We did not verify real orders or platform integrations.
What should a listing explain?
| Information | What a reader or agent needs | Common problem |
|---|---|---|
| Product and variants | Name, size, color and audience | Confused variants cause a wrong purchase |
| Price and currency | Product price and applicable terms | Display price differs at checkout |
| Stock | Availability of the particular variant | In stock at search, unavailable at payment |
| Delivery | Area, method, cost and estimated time | Shipping ignored when comparing item prices |
| Support | Returns, exchanges and contact | Restrictions discovered only after payment |
Total cost can include tax, shipping and discounts. A discovery-stage quote may not be final and should be reconfirmed at checkout.
What does a protocol provide?
UCP core concepts describe how merchants and platforms publish and negotiate capabilities; its fulfillment extension describes delivery destinations, costs and options. A specification field does not establish support by every merchant or platform.
Merchants still choose inventory sources, update frequency, order systems, authorization, privacy and support processes. Identifying an agent and distinguishing it from ordinary crawlers may also affect access; see Visa TAP documentation.
Where to start
Pick a small product category and check consistency of price, variants, stock and delivery from search through final order. Return explicit statuses for uncertain or changing data instead of letting an agent treat estimates as confirmed. Provide a support channel for order queries and after-sales issues.
